Well there’s something you don’t see everyday…
Jonathon Snook, who never disappoints with his tidbits of knowledge, shows us how to quickly whip up the somewhat lacking, but still possible OOP style programming with Active Server Pages in VBScript. In Self-referencing in VBScript, Jon goes on to give a small example on how to set up a class and how to self reference in the class:
Other languages often use this or self to access the current object. To do the same thing in VBScript, use the me keyword.
Check it out if you’re still working with VBScript and ASP, it might just make it a little less excruciating.
GEMPAK
Well, I was able to install Xubuntu on a VMWare virtual machine last night and actually get GEMPAK installed and compiled. Quite honestly, it was a hell of a lot easier than I imagined. The next step is to read through all the documentation, no small task from the quick glance I took last night. I was only in dependency hell for about an hour which is gleeful compared to other softwares. Once ./configure ran without issue, the build/install/cleanup took about 30 minutes. I wasn’t able to actually get the software up and running as I got sidetracked…
Windows 98SE
From time to time I’ll get that VMWare itch. The one where no matter how much I scratch at it, I’m still installing random OS’s just because I happen to have a disc ISO laying around. Well, in this adventure into the past, I decided to install good ol’ Windows 98.
After updating what I could (can you believe Windows Update still works?) I went on to install my favorite game: Mechwarrior 2. Now, some time ago I had bought the Titanium edition which came with all three Mech2 games, the self entitled, Ghost Bear Legacy, and Mercenaries. I’m still having an issue with the sound and it was far too late last night to load up a game, but I’ll give it a go this weekend.
Should it all go as planned, I’ll have little need to build a second old school gaming box, though I’ll be really depressed if I never get to use my dual VooDoo2 cards.
