Checking out the storms

Well, yesterday was a bust. Once I saw the line starting to build up I headed to downtown (Plymouth) to a parking structure for a better vantage point. We weren’t expecting anything tornadic as the directional shear just wasn’t there. After the initial line moved through real sloppy convection made it hard to get a shot of the system as it moved just south of us. Realizing that there was no way to get a good shot I decided to head to my parent’s house in Garden City. Even if I wasn’t going to get good pics of the system, or even miss the dwindling second line, I was gonna get me some home cooking!

Of course the second line faded down and the bigger cells moved northward and started to form a nice squall line. There was a local report of a 16″ tree snapping in half but I highly doubt we (lower SE Michigan) ever got a gust that bad.

You can find more pics of the system before it moved in at http://www.kritikal.com/images/wx/20070515/
