A Geek’s Coming of Age
Alfred Thompson talks about teaching his 15-year old son to program for the web.
What’s really interesting is that the process his son is going through is very similiar to the path I took.
I started with an HTML Primer (from NCSA) and worked my way up incorporating frames and javascript. I still have the HTML from my first site with a scrolling marquee and blinking list bullets!
My wife and I are expecting our first child this summer so this is of great interest. While I certainly can’t start my child on BASIC at age 5, there must be some sort of groundwork I can lay that will allow them to have the ciritical thinking and problem solving skills needed not only to be a good programming, but to pragmatically approach any problem in life.
