Boller! The New COBOL WebFrame

Well, not really, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s one on the way for Fortran too.

Daniel Spiewak over at Code Commit talks about the end of the ruby fad and the attitudes of those fueling the fire, or running out of the burning house.

While I agree there’s a fad, I think it’s more to do with turning every language on the planet into a web language with webframes, whether its needed it or not. Then, after it’s been released to the wild, works begins to make it run on the JVM just because they can.

I’m all for doing something just to see if it works, that’s how we learn. The problem comes not from the geek to hacks his own webframe, but from the people who dive in to monetize it. It’s to their benefit that the fad continues but rarely fosters innovation, just cranky developers.
