Total Lunar Eclipse

Tonight starting at around 8:45PM we’ll be able to see another total lunar eclipse. If you’re in my area, SE Michigan, you’ll want to look towards the east-southeast. The whole show should be over and done with just after midnight and won’t happen again until 2010.

Unfortunately for me, I do not have a good view of the ESE so I’ll probably venture to the nearby parking structure. I have a very old ‘light bucket’ telescope that I’m going to use and have my camera with tripod so I’ll hopefully get some good pictures to post up.

The rare part of this eclipse is that Saturn and the star, Regulus, will be in close proximity to the Moon and create a triangle. This type of double event happens about once a millennium so it will no doubt be a once in a life time experience.

You can get a more detailed account of the eclipse at Space.com.
